Adobe Photoshop is commonly considered to be the premier photo editing package and is well recognized as the industry standard in image manipulation. Photoshop has a wide range of tools for all manner of digital art and photo manipulation purposes and its used by artists for a variety of work, web design, digital painting, image manipulation and photo editing and retouching
Art Rage is a natural media emulating digital art program. Art Rage was created by a New Zealand based studio called Ambient Design back in 2000. Art Rage is available in a free and paid for edition and has been applauded by many for it's simplicity of use and intuitive interface that is designed to work very ergonomically and its perfect for non tech artists to be introduced to the digital art world
Artweaver is a freeware raster graphics editor and digital art program for Windows and Linux through Wine. Artweaver is the creation of Boris Eyrich and is a tool for digital artists to create unique digital art or to edit and manipulate photos and images. Artweaver has a wide range of tools incorporating traditional image editing tools like resizing, cropping, fills, filters and blur and sharpen features
Corel Painter is a digital art program that mimics natural media like paint, pastels and watercolors. Corel Painter is graphic tablet compatible and when used with a pressure sensitive tablet allows more control with variations in the amount of digital paint or the density of the paint applied matching the weight of the digital stylus on the tablet
Manga Studio is a digital art program, specifically targeted for the creation of digital comic or digitally inked artwork. Manga Studio is developed by Celsys and comes in two versions, Manga Studio Ex which is the fully featured full price version of the program and Manga Studio Debut which is the lower priced and less featured version targeted for amateur use
